- Austin City Limits announced their 2010 lineup. Among the acts include classic acts such as The Eagles and Phish along with M.I.A., The XX, Yeasayer, Monsters of Folk, David Bazan, and Balmorhea. Check out the full lineup. Austin City Limits happens October 8 – 10 in the Lone Star State.
- Ryan Adams is releasing a limited number of vinyl pressings of his “sci-fi metal” album, Orion. Wow. It is available on his website with a warning from Adams. “Again, this is an extremely limited pressing. You’ve been warned.” Definitely a departure from his Heartbreaker. Let’s see where he goes from here.
- “Sometimes a silence in music is better than adding to the static and so an end to it, Elvis Costello wrote on his website yesterday as he explained why he was canceling his two performances scheduled in Israel on June 30 and July 1. Regarding his concerns over Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, “there are occasions when merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act that resonates more than anything that might be sung and it may be assumed that one has no mind for the suffering of the innocent.” He adds, “I cannot imagine receiving another invitation to perform in Israel, which is a matter of regret but I can imagine a better time when I would not be writing this.”
- The National’s latest album High Violet hit number 3 on the Billboard charts with 51,000 albums sold (and it’s currently #2 in Seattle!). This follow up to 2007′s The Boxer has met generally positive reviews. Pitchfork Media gave the album an 8.7 out of 10, Spin gave it 4 out 5 stars, and The Times Online gave it 5 out of 5 stars.
- The Drums have a new video out. Very throwback style film, and how about that awesome jersey?!
- Speaking of videos, Akron/Family is starting this video channel of fan videos: “We want fans to take whatever track (or tracks) they would like from the record and set them to the weirdest, simplest, or funniest visual material they like. A bear attacking a trash can. A quarterback being blitzed repeatedly. A herd of buffalo stampeding across the Dakotas. Whatever is their pleasure.” Add your own and set it free here.
- The Moondoggies have put out a song from their forthcoming EP, You’ll Find No Answers Here Seattle label Hardly Art has put it up free on their web site:
- For more free local music, you can download a brand new song from Portland’s Menomena here. The Portland trio will release their fourth full-length record, Mines, July 27th on Barsuk Records.
- The Seattle Art Museum last week opened up their new exhibit with art dedicated to Nirvana front man and Seattle legend Kurt Cobain.
